Pastoral Team Member (Cantonese Ministry)

Under the supervision of the Pastor-in-Charge, the Pastoral Staff for Cantonese Ministry is responsible for leading, shepherding and developing the Cantonese-speaking congregation in accordance with the vision, mission and values of Fairfield Methodist Church.

Objective:

To cultivate a prayerful and disciple-making congregation, growing the Cantonese ministry in spiritual depth and numbers while reaching out to the Cantonese-speaking community in Chinatown, Singapore and beyond.

 

Responsibilities

  • Pastoral Care

    1. Develop and implement ministry plans aligned with the Church’s vision, with emphasis on evangelism, discipleship, spiritual formation and congregational growth.
    2. Work closely with the Cantonese Ministries Sub-Committee and relevant leaders to plan, implement and review ministry initiatives.
    3. Oversee and develop Cantonese worship services and the pulpit calendar. Cultivate a congregational life centred on worship, prayer, biblical teaching, evangelism and discipleship.
    4. Provide regular pastoral visitations and care for members and friends in homes hospitals and other appropriate settings and Holy Communion where appropriate.
    5. Develop a sustainable care network that encourages mutual support, prayer and spiritual accountability. Strengthen Christian fellowship, hospitality and community among Cantonese-speaking members and friends.
    6. Create opportunities to outreach in Chinatown, Singapore and beyond.
    7. Provide Bible studies and discipleship opportunities that enable growth in biblical understanding, spiritual maturity and Christlikeness.
    8. Collaborate with other ministries, language congregations, ministry teams and staff to foster unity, integration and ministry synergy, contributing to the wider mission of Fairfield Methodist Church.
    9. Prepare and manage budgets for the ministry, ensure expenditures remain within approved limits, and compile annual activity reports to support organizational planning.

  • Other Responsibilities and Accountability

    1. Undertake other duties assigned by the Pastor-in-Charge or the pastor overseeing the relevant ministry area. The Pastoral Staff shall be accountable to the Pastor-in-Charge and to the LCEC (Local Church Executive Committee).

 

Requirements

The candidate should have:

  • Theological qualifications and ministry training is preferred or at least minimum 2 years’ experience in pastoral ministry or a related field, preferably in a church or non-profit environment
  • Demonstrate a deep love for God, genuine compassion for people, especially the elderly and a heart for pastoral ministry
  • Proficient in Cantonese and effective in Cantonese ministry, with an understanding of the community’s needs and culture
  • Possess spiritual maturity, leadership capability and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and lay leaders
  • Be able to inspire, equip and motivate others towards prayer, evangelism, discipleship and service
  • Demonstrate commitment to the vision and values of Fairfield Methodist Church, together with good interpersonal, pastoral and organisational skills
