On 15 June 1986, the first service and sermon was preached here at 1 Tanjong Pagar Road.
When we look back on 40 years here, which has been layered by many years and experiences of God’s constant provision and faithfulness to our community, we are excited to cross the threshold into a new season.
There are many things we’ve prayed for and prayed over—from talking about serving Chinatown in the 1980s to moving right into the heart of it, to His provision to purchase this building with the exact amount required for the deposit, to praying over the nightclubs that dotted Tanjong Pagar Road in the 1990s and 2000s and seeing them replaced by bridal shops and restaurants, to how God paved the way for Yong-en Care Centre to be established in the centre of Chinatown, amidst other demonstrations of His providence.
In 2026, we will also celebrate the Cantonese Ministry’s 40th anniversary in September, and Mandarin Ministry’s 20th anniversary next year. There is a whole myriad of events for which we must give all glory to God.
Not only are we stepping into a new spiritual season, we also anticipate the renewal of the building’s lease in the coming weeks. We see that the work He has called us to do in this place is far from over, and may we be obedient and faithful to all that He has set out for us.
Across the English, Mandarin and Cantonese services on 14 June 2026, the congregations and leaders took time to pray for Fairfield. At the English services, Rev Wendy Tay, Rev Ivan Tan, Ms Hee Piang Chin—the first Lay Leader at 1 Tanjong Pagar Road—and current Lay Leader Daniel Chiam went up, presenting us as a church to the Lord for His work.

You can listen to Rev Wendy’s sharing, and the leaders’ prayer in this short clip.
Rev Wendy preached about blind Bartimaeus calling out to Jesus and encountering Him (Mark 10:46-52). Bartimaeus went from being a spectator to being a disciple, from holding on to his cloak to throwing it off to follow Jesus, and from knowing about Jesus to seeing Him!
It was a fitting sermon; as Bartimaeus had a transformative, threshold moment in his life, it is the same for us as a community of believers who gather here regularly. May we move past the threshold into the transformation He wants to do in us, moving from maintenance to multiplication, from gathering disciples to making disciples, and from comfort to mission. Let us live out our mission to Magnify God, Multiply Disciples, and Minister to All Peoples in Singapore and beyond.
If you haven’t listened to The Fairfield Podcast, which gives insight into our history, take some time to listen. Consider what God might also be saying as you participate in the life and ministry of the Fairfield family.
May we fulfil God’s purpose and mission for us to be Christ’s light in the city!
