Fairfield Methodist Church collaborated with SportCares to reach out to more than 400 Kreta Ayer seniors and Jalan Kukoh residents, in partnership with ComCare, Jalan Kukoh Residents’ Committee, Kreta Ayer Family Services(Montfort Care) and Senior Activities services, through the Kampong of Care Carnival held on 10 Sep 2022.
God blessed us with wonderful weather as this was the first of such gatherings at Jalan Kukoh’s multi-storey carpark rooftop since COVID, this fun-filled carnival was graced by Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Social and Family Development, Mr Eric Chua, brought much cheer and excitement to seniors, children, youths and families who attended.
The half-day carnival saw our volunteers creatively engaging and sincerely befriending the seniors living alone in rental flats to be more actively involved in activities such as mass workouts, modified sports/games and other kampong fringe activities. Children, youths and families present were also encouraged to participate in the sports/games together with the seniors.
Through the Carnival and similar community engagement platforms, we hope that many more people would come out of their homes to get to know one another better, deepen relationships of trust, and together with our volunteers, build a caring and resilient community that provides neighbourly support and companionship for one another.
We are very thankful for the privilege to connect, strengthen social cohesion and share God’s love with each in the community, to help encourage a sense of integration and engagement across generations of residents, bringing God’s love and peace into their hearts and into their homes.
