Reflections – Missions and Me by Miss Hee PC
I used to believe that missions is for the special few called by God to “GO”. I read about and was greatly inspired by the life and work of individuals like David Livingstone, Hudson Taylor, Gladys Alyward and others who went and made so much difference for God. But I never felt that God was calling me to go. So I remained – contented to let those called to go. However as I understood more of God’s mission I began…
Reflections – Missions and the Kingdom of God by Sister K
“and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” Lk 9:2 Very often people relate missions to a select few, whom they think are specially gifted or spiritually equipped. While it is true that some people have specific calling to fulfil God’s purposes to further his Kingdom’s work, the calling to all God’s people in His Kingdom is to missions. “the field is wide unto harvest, and the labourers are few.” When Jesus…
Reflections – Father’s Day
From sermons to books to conferences, family camps and what have you; to preachers, famous authors, writers and psychologists, many of whom expound and try to drum on parenting skills and on how to be good parents, or how to be the father your children need or how to raise a godly family. In all honest aspiration, nothing can be further from this truth in every man for his family – his wife and children. Most Christian fathers in fact…
Reflections – Bringing Up a Child
On one of my mission trips to the Philippines, I had the privilege of witnessing a baby dedication service in a church on a Sunday afternoon. Interestingly, it is not integrated into the main service. It is a service in itself; with worship, a short sharing from the Word of God followed by the dedication ceremony. What followed truly ‘opened’ my eyes – During the dedication ceremony, upon the pastor’s introduction, both parents walked down the aisle to where the…
Reflections – My dad
My beloved dad passed on four years ago at age 87. God has given me the privilege of sharing the Gospel and praying with him to receive Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour when he was in his 70s. His passing on impacted me tremendously, to the point I thought I would never recover from it. It was a very difficult and lonely journey – one that was so stricken with grief, pain, anger, betrayal and frustrations. I missed…
Reflections – Have You Watch Them Sleep?
The Sunday Star (Malaysian newspaper), 2 March 2008 Have you watched them sleep? By Shakunthala Devi I received a message from my Friendster account the other day. It was one of those forwarded messages, the type I would usually scan briefly before hitting “delete”. But this message, written in Bahasa Malaysia, started with a simple question that caught my attention. A rough translation of it goes like this: “Have you ever watched your parents while they sleep? Your father’s body,…
Reflections – Friendship
“She died leading a simple austere life. She was a very humble person. She was literate but more than that she was a well-educated woman. One of her students quipped she was strict and fair as a teacher and headmistress. She was humanely kind, loving, without any regrets in life and was ever ready to help deserving cause. She was the teacher who taught us aesthetic values through art, free expression of the mind and heart and quality of creative…
